Context
Everything Claude “remembers” in the current conversation: messages, files read, results. It has limited room, like a workbench: too cluttered, and it’s hard to work.
How it appears in the course
The context window is Claude’s working memory in a conversation. It’s limited, like a desk where only so many papers fit. The fuller it is, the worse Claude follows instructions.
In the middle of a long task, look at /context, then run /compact with a focus.
The context is everything Claude “remembers” in the current conversation: the messages you’ve exchanged, the files it has read, the results of commands. It’s like the handyman’s workbench. If it gets too cluttered, the work gets worse.
