.mcp.json
The file in the project where you write which MCP servers (connections to other apps) the team uses. Passwords don’t go in it; they’re taken from environment variables.
How it appears in the course
You put a .mcp.json file in the project’s main folder. All your colleagues get the same connections.
Make a .mcp.json for the team, without secret keys, using ${VAR}.
For the team you use .mcp.json, and you put secret keys as ${VAR}, not directly in the file.
Where you learn it
In module 08 · MCP: connecting to other apps, in the Claude Code for Beginners course.
