Where are your files?
Installation and your first project · lesson 10 of 12
Everything Codex makes lives in the subscriptions folder, on your computer.
It isn’t hidden in an online account.
If you delete the folder, you delete the project.
You can see the files in two ways:
- in Finder or File Explorer, under
Documents→subscriptions; - in the app, with the file tree (the list of files in the project):
⌘⇧Eon a Mac,Ctrl+Shift+Eon Windows.
Right now you’ll probably find a single file there: index.html.
HTML is the language web pages are written in.
If you open it, you see text with lots of angle brackets, like <h1>.
You don’t need to understand it.
Later on, Codex may split the project into several files.
For example, style.css says how the page looks, and app.js what the page does.
Two tips:
- Don’t move or rename the folder while you’re working on it. If you do, open it again with
⌘O/Ctrl+O. - Your chats stay in the app, under your project. You’ll find them in the sidebar when you come back.
