How do you sign in and get to Codex?
Installation and your first project · lesson 5 of 12
The first time you open the app, it asks you to sign in. You use your ChatGPT account, the same one as on the website or your phone. If you don’t have an account, you can create one right there, for free.
If you’ve turned on two-step verification (an extra code on top of your password), the app may ask for it now. It may also ask you to add or verify a phone number.
Now switch to Codex mode:
- open the
ChatGPTdropdown menu and chooseCodex; - or press
⌃3on a Mac (the Control key and 3) orAlt+3on Windows.
In Codex you have a sidebar with your projects and chats. The box where you type is called the composer. Under it you pick the model and find the permissions button.
Can’t find Codex in the menu?
- Update the app.
- On Free or Go, access may not have reached you yet. Go back to the lesson on plans.
You type your account password only in the app or on chatgpt.com. Nobody from “support” will ever ask you for it.
