How do you install the app on Windows?

On Windows, the app is installed through the Microsoft Store, the app store built into Windows.
The simple way:
- In your browser, open chatgpt.com/download and choose the Windows version.
- The official link takes you to the Microsoft Store installation.
- Follow the steps on screen and wait for the installation to finish.
- Start ChatGPT from the Start menu.
The one-command way, if the Store page won’t load: PowerShell is the Windows terminal, a window where you type commands. You find it by typing “PowerShell” in the Start menu. Copy the line below, paste it into PowerShell and press Enter:
winget install --id 9PLM9XGG6VKS -s msstore
winget is the installer that comes with Windows.
The command tells it to fetch the ChatGPT app from the Microsoft Store.
The long code is the app’s ID in the Store.
The command comes from OpenAI’s Windows guide.
Later on, Codex will sometimes ask for extra programs, such as Git, the program that keeps save points (you’ll meet it in module 04). You install them then, with its help.
