Where else can you use Codex?
Welcome to Codex · lesson 4 of 12
Codex isn’t only in the app on your computer. The same agent shows up in several places:
- On your phone, in the ChatGPT app for iOS or Android. From there you follow what Codex is doing on your computer, approve steps and send new instructions. The work still runs on the computer.
- In the cloud. The cloud means OpenAI’s computers, on the internet. Codex works there on your project on GitHub (a website where people keep code projects), even if you close your laptop.
- In the terminal. The terminal is a window where you type commands instead of clicking. The version that runs there is called Codex CLI.
- In VS Code, the program many developers write code in, through an extension (an add-on you install in the program).
The order in this course:
- modules 01–09: the app on your computer;
- module 10: your phone and the cloud;
- module 11: the terminal;
- module 12: VS Code.
We put them at the end on purpose. They only become useful once you’ve mastered the basics.
