Where does Codex fall short?
Welcome to Codex · lesson 6 of 12
Codex is powerful, but it has clear limits. It’s worth knowing them from the start, so your expectations are right.
- It makes mistakes. Sometimes it writes code that looks fine but doesn’t work. Or it does something other than what you meant. That’s why you always check.
- It can’t read your mind. If your request is vague, it guesses. You learn how to ask clearly in module 03.
- It doesn’t remember old chats on its own. A new chat starts almost from zero. Permanent rules go in a file called
AGENTS.md, which you learn about in module 07. - It has a usage limit. Each plan gives you a certain amount of work, which refills over time. More in modules 01 and 06.
- It can’t work on a computer that’s off. For work on your own computer, the computer has to be on and the app open.
- It doesn’t decide for you. You decide what goes into the app and what doesn’t.
Some features aren’t available in Romania and the rest of the European Union. One example is Sites, OpenAI’s website hosting. The course is built without them, so you can follow it from anywhere.
