Codex or Claude Code?
Welcome to Codex · lesson 7 of 12
You may have already taken the “Claude Code for beginners” course on Zero2App. If not, feel free to skip this lesson: the course works without it.
Claude Code is the coding agent made by Anthropic. Codex is the coding agent made by OpenAI. They do roughly the same thing: read the project, write code, run commands and ask before risky steps.
What stays the same:
- clear requests get good results;
- you check every change;
- you keep save points, so you can go back.
What’s different:
- Codex works with a ChatGPT account, not a Claude account.
- The project rules file is called
AGENTS.md, notCLAUDE.md. - In this course you work mostly in an app with windows and a built-in browser, not in the terminal.
- If you already have projects in Claude Code, the app can import them from its settings (
Settings→Import). Importing changes nothing in Claude Code.
Which one is better? Honestly: it depends on the project and on the subscription you already have. What you learn here about working with an agent helps with both.
